2019 LAB Groups

LAB 2019-2020 Program

We started out with 6 groups, but concluded the training and loan season with 4 strong, diverse groups. The reason for groups dropping out is that WILK program has rules requiring 75% or more of group members be present at each training. Groups sometimes find uneven levels of commitment from their members. Lack of commitment needs to be brought to light, so that the group doesn’t take a loan without committed members, lest they risk defaulting.

Inkirmat Oloilalei Women’s Group

13 women who have been each other’s support for many years. Before they joined WILK, they targeted each women to have a better roof on their house. Over a few years of savings and raising goats, they were able to put a roof on each member’s house. They are determined women.

Loonkishu Elerai Men’s Livestock Farmer Group

A men’s group made of friends, brothers and neighbors in Elerai in in the Mt. Kilimanjaro Highland, this group spread the news in their area, so that each training had the 15 group members, plus another dozen people eager to learn! They won the prize of highest overall profit.

Enyuata Ang Livestock Farmer Group

This is a group which combined the members of 2 other groups and added some men. They decided to consolidate their resources to strengthen themselves and their focus, instead of diluting their efforts.

Inkaretok Isinet Women’s Group

This group celebrated 15 years together before joining the LAB program. They are mature women with grown children and a world of experience, eager to learn to improve the lives of their families through smart management of their family livestock assets, Applying skills learned in LAB training to their group cows dovetails naturally with home livestock management.
